Question:  Why does Colonial Warehouse use red cedar timber for doors and windows?

Answer:  Cedar has a fine and stable grain structure making it a great choice for timber joinery which is suitable for the harsh Australian climate. Its fine grain minimizes shrinkage, swelling, warping and twisting. Its lack of pitch and gum veins make it good to varnish, bringing out its natural colours which vary from light brown to red.  Cedar also has natural built in preservatives which makes it resistant to termites, borers, rot and fungus growth.

Question:  I would like to install bifold doors.  What do I need to consider?

First of all, check your beams are strong enough to handle the load as all weight hangs from the lintels above.  Your floor must also be level so the bifolds are square allowing them to operate smoothly.  Screening bifolds  can be an issue, however, retractable screens are available.  Bifold units  over 4.8m are not recommended  – timber expands and contracts in the weather and because the doors are completely encased in a frame, the more doors means the more movement causing jamming.  Sealing the doors completely on all surfaces (including the top and underside) helps reduce the movement of the doors.    At least two strong people need to assist the driver with the unloading of bifold doors.  Bifolds over 3m are supplied in knockdown.

Question:  What stain do you recommend to use on red cedar doors and windows?

Answer:  We stock an extensive range of Sikkens products which we believe is one of the best products on the market for red cedar doors and windows.

Question:  Do you provide a Form 15 for glazing?

Answer:  Yes.  All of our windows at Colonial Warehouse are made to the Australian Standards and a Form 15 is available with the purchase of all windows.

Question:  Do your products come with a guarantee?

Answer:  Sure.  We have a 7 year waranty that is conditional – such as the doors and windows must be sealed entirely prior to installation.  Refer to our Guarantee section for more details.

Question:  Do you deliver?

Answer:  We can arrange delivery for an additional fee.  Assistance unloading may be required by the truck driver for larger items.

Question: Do you custom make doors and windows?

Answer:   We carry an extensive range of stock doors and windows, however, if you cant find what you are looking for in our warehouse, we can make any door or window for you to suit your requirements.
